A needle for a song

THèME : A SONG

Illustrate in cross-stitch a song of your choice

RULE :

1° The piece of work must be a pure creation.

2° The work must be basically cross-stitch 20 % of back-stitch and half-stitch will be accepted.

3° The embroidery work must be individual. A collective work will be refused.

4° The support is free of choice.

5° The surface must not exceed 400 sq inches (20 by 20 inches or 25 by 16 inches) frame excluded.

6° The piece of work should be presented without glass and ready to be hanged.

7° If the work is a copy of a book jacket or a record jacket or any other reproduction, it will be cancelled.

The main requirements for the preliminary selection will be :

- Theme and rule followed

- Choice of illustration

- Creativity

- Your participation form for preselection.

- A slide (diapositive small size 135 - 24/36) of the work completely finished and a slide showing a detail of your choice.

- A written description including : title, author, composer and text of the song.

- 3 international reply coupons.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF CONTEST :

The slides will remain the property of the participants and will be returned at the end of the contest.

A 1st selection (slides only) will take place on April 1998. You will be advised by mail, of the result.

The selected embroideries should be sent before the 1st of June 1998, required time, with : the participation form of the final phase of the contest ; a share for the expenses in management and the return of the works to participants (*) Provide a good quality wrapping and packaging to be reused to send them back.

The selected works will be exhibited in Montmorillon during the Biennial in June 1998 ; each work being presented with the title of the song and a part of the text of the illustrated song.

The members of the jury will be international professionals to elect 30 laureates ; the selected works will be published in a catalog and the exhibition will travel during 24 months. After that time, the embroidery works will be returned to the owner.
